Navajo rugs and blankets are textiles produced by Navajo people of the Four Corners area of the United States. Navajo textiles were originally utilitarian blankets for use as cloaks, dresses, saddle blankets, and similar purposes. Towards the end of the 19th century, weavers began to make rugs for tourism and export. Typical Navajo textiles have strong geometric patterns. They are a flat tapestry-woven textile produced in a fashion similar to kilims of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, but with some notable differences.

Navajo design is actually very popular in high fashion, furniture and home decoration, especially in Scandinavian style homes. During my last visit to Tokyo in January 2013, I have seen products from Pendleton everywhere, the famous Navajo textile brand from the United States. They make rugs, throws, cushion covers, towels, and even furniture. And you probably have seen their collaboration projects with Eames, Junya Watanabe and many other famous brands.
